When visitors enter the Museum of the Future in Dubai, they are greeted by a very special guide, “Ameca”, the latest generation humanoid robot that had already amazed at the last CES, the consumer electronics fair in Las Vegas for the extraordinary likelihood of her facial expressions and interaction skills.
Developed as a platform for artificial intelligence and machine learning by Engineered Arts, a British company specializing in robotics, Ameca is human-like, 1.87 m tall, weighs 49 kg and is able to perform dozens of movements. The robot has facial recognition technology and can interact with visitors, answering their questions about the museum.
How does it work
The surprising ability of Ameca to interact with the surrounding space by distinguishing voices and linking gestures to words depends on a complex system of microphones and biometric detection eye cameras that allows the robot to recognize its interlocutors at a distance of 2 meters, identifying them, gender, age and even emotions. The robot responds in a realistic way thanks to artificial intelligence and software that allows you to change its behavior remotely.
In Ameca’s head there are 17 engines. Facial expressions are produced by a camera system that captures those made by an operator and reproduces them on the humanoid robot.
