Brazil with a new president

Brazil elected its new president on Sunday. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva defeated incumbent President Bolsonaro in the second round of elections to take the country’s leadership for the third time, 11 years after his last term.

After counting all the votes cast in the ballot boxes, it turned out that the Leader of the Workers’ Party received 50.88% of the votes while his rival received 49.12%, in a really close race.

“The only one who won today is the Brazilian people”, declared Lula shortly before the announcement of the result.

According to the election commission, over 120 million people participated in the election, while the voting was done electronically, and this was one reason why the result came out only after a few hours.
