Democrats are close to retaining control of the Senate

President Joe Biden’s Democrats are closer to retaining control of the Senate after Sen. Mark Kelly won the state’s midterm race. Kelly’s victory over Republican Blake Masters puts the GOP one seat away from winning the Senate.

Democrats can retain control of the Senate if they win Nevada or in the Georgia runoff next month. For Republicans to gain control of the Senate they must win the race in these two states. The Democrats will take the majority if they win one more seat, since they have the vote of the US vice president, Kamala Harris.

Republicans, however, still have a chance to take control of the House of Representatives or Congress, as the counting of votes for Tuesday’s election continues. If Republicans gain control of one of the two congressional houses, they could block President Biden’s agenda.
