Fires in Portugal, firefighting plane crashes: young pilot dies

Critical situation also in Spain and France. Thousands of people were forced to leave their homes due to the vast fires. The mercury column is also skyrocketing in Great Britain

New victim in Portugal during firefighting operations: a Fire Boss model aircraft crashed in the Foz Côaieri area.

Nothing to do for the young pilot, Andrè Serra, 30 years old and a past as a pilot in the Air Force. In the last few hours, 61 fires have continued to burn the Portuguese woodland, and over two thousand firefighters are still fighting the fire from north to south of the country.

Not only Portugal but all of southwestern Europe still burns under the grip of the heat. Thousands of people were forced to evacuate to Spain and France due to the extensive fires. The mercury column also skyrockets in Great Britain, where 40 degrees are expected on Tuesday. The furnace that is engulfing southwestern Europe is the second in weeks, and the cause – scientists assure – is climate change that will bring more frequent and intense episodes of this type.
