The Hungarian president exposes an openly racial theory for the first time, disconcerting those who listened to him at a demonstration of the Hungarian minority in Romania
“Hungarians don’t want to mix with other races.” Viktor Orban exposes an openly racial theory for the first time, disconcerting everyone, but not his loyalists, who listened to him at the Tusvanyos Summer demonstration of the Hungarian minority in Romania. The text of his speech was published by the socialist newspaper Nepszava. Orban listed the dangers that threaten Hungarian society: war, recession, but the greatest risk for the sovereign leader comes from uncontrolled mass migration, which would involve “a mixture of races”. Hence the incitement for a demographic change immediately, or Europe will soon be “replaced” by foreigners. “A true Nazi speech,” commented historian Krisztian Ungvary. And there are those who feared the concrete risk that the country would end up outside the EU, if the prime minister insists on this new approach to the migration issue.
The theory of the leader of Fidesz is that in Europe there are populations that are now not nations, but an ethnic conglomerate of “various races, European and non-European, that mix”. The forecast is that by 2050, there will be no more nations in the EU, but only the outcome of cross populations. “Instead, we, Hungarians, here in the Carpathian basin, do not want to mix with other races, we fight against such a fate”, he argued with conviction.
Here, according to Orban, lies the core of the discord with the EU. “Brussels and Soros want to force us to accept migrants, they have also sentenced us in court, but we will not give in”, he pressed, reassuring his supporters. Then he said: “The world is indebted to us, because we are defending Europe with a barrier on the border to prevent the arrival of migrants, but we will force it to pay this debt for sure.”
After all, the West is decaying, demographically, spiritually and also economically, he added. “We have more funerals than baptisms. Unless there is a demographic shift, our population will soon be replaced by foreigners,” he continued, reiterating the extremist thesis of the “great replacement”. According to Orban, the West is in decline, its driving force is running out, and “the real West, Christian Europe” would be represented by him and the other sovereign leaders.
“It’s a real Nazi speech,” commented historian Krisztian Ungvary. An open racism that is manifested for the first time by Orban, and that has not remained unnoticed by the world of politics. According to the leader of the Democratic Party (Dk), Ferenc Gyurcsany “this Nazi speech makes Hungary rewrite the world of honest peoples”. Andras Heisler, president of the Hungarian Jewish community (Mazsihisz) asked for a public explanation from the premier on the theory “of the mixture of races, hardly acceptable for Hungarian Jews, survivors of the racial laws of the 1930s”. Green party leader Peter Ungar reminded Orban that science knows no races, but only one species, homo sapiens.
“Orban, as he said, wants to keep Hungary out of the war in Ukraine, from migration, from the global minimum tax and from the economic recession, but with these racist interventions it will soon end only outside the EU”, noted the well-known international affairs expert Istvan Szent-Ivanyi.
