One of the richest people in the world, Jeff Bezos, has decided to donate most of his money to humanitarian causes. His fortune is estimated at 124 billion dollars.
In an interview with CNN, he said that he will donate most of the money to the fight against climate change, but also to people facing social and political divisions.
This is the first time that Bezos has announced that he will donate his wealth. He was criticized for not supporting the Giving Pledge campaign in which some of the world’s richest people pledged to donate money to humanitarian causes. Bezos said he and his partner Lauren Sanchez plan to donate money. According to him, they are currently building facilities so that they can donate the money.
Asked if that would happen while he was alive, Bezos said yes.
Earlier, the famous singer Dolly Parton received the “Bezos Courage & Civility Award” of 100 million dollars, which Bezos gives to activists, philanthropists and humanitarians who “courageously seek solutions” to current world problems. Bezos announced the award along with Sanchez.
