Musk buys Twitter: “The bird is freed”. The EU: “We make the rules in Europe”

EU Internal Market Commissioner Breton replies to Musk. The fired managers would have deceived and hindered the purchase by the new owner

The new Twitter owner, Elon Musk, and the European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, tweeted back and forth. “The bird is released,” Musk tweeted to announce the acquisition. “In Europe the bird will fly by our EU rules,” Breton replied.

Elon Musk has completed his $ 44 billion Twitter acquisition and has already started cleaning up, firing four top executives.

Those torpedoed are chief executive Parag Agrawal, chief financial officer Ned Segal, head of legal affairs and policy Vijaya Gadde and general counsel Sean Edgett. Agrawal and Segal, who were inside the company headquarters, were literally kicked out of the building escorted by security.

Elon Musk tweeted “the bird is free”, in reference to Twitter – whose logo is a blue bird -, after taking control of the social platform that he acquired for 44 billion dollars.

This concludes the saga that saw Twitter arrive in court to force Musk to comply with the terms of the acquisition agreement that he had tried to escape.

Musk had until today, Friday, October 28, to complete his $ 44 billion acquisition of Twitter and thus avoid the judicial battle with the company.

Elon Musk would intend to take on the role of CEO of Twitter after completing the acquisition, taking the helm of the social media giant in addition to Tesla and SpaceX. Bloomberg states, according to which Musk intends to replace former CEO Parag Agrawal, who was fired along with other important executives. The billionaire is expected to remain CEO ‘on an interim’ basis and could then hand over the role.
