Rival gangs clash in Ecuador’s prison, at least 10 victims

Another violent fight between rival gangs was recorded in an Ecuadorian prison, where 10 people lost their lives as a result, while many others were injured.

The serious incident took place in the El Inca prison, north of the capital Quito, and came as a result of the transfer of the leader of the Los Lobos gang, Jonathan Bermudez, to a high-security prison.

The prison authorities say it is a reprisal of the criminal gang, deprived of its head, against other organizations inside the prison.

This is the 11th violent clash in an Ecuadorian prison since 2021, episodes that have so far led to the deaths of 401 people.
