Russia, a new boom in Covid cases, hit highest since April

Boom of Covid cases in Russia, over 11 thousand have been registered in the last 24 hours, never so many since last April. The spokesman of the Kremlin, Peskov: “An alarming trend. The numbers are really growing”.

The Covid-19 nightmare returns to Russia. Today, in fact, a new record of new Coronavirus cases was recorded: there were 11,515 in 24 hours, according to the health authorities, never so many since last April 13. To this must be added a further 51 deaths.

A not very positive news, which comes while Moscow troops are engaged in Ukraine in what is still presented as a “special operation”. Today, therefore, we are witnessing a doubling of infections compared to last week. The death toll rose by 41 percent (there were 19 victims yesterday) to a total of 382,313 deaths, reports the country’s anti-Coronavirus center.

The number of hospitalizations is also worrying, although there is a downward trend. The people hospitalized yesterday were 1,491, 8.4% less than the previous day. The number of patients fell in 40 regions while it increased in another 31.

“There is an alarming trend. The numbers are really growing,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, quoted by Interfax. Also according to the news agency, when asked if the Russian authorities intend to introduce the obligation of masks, Peskov replied that “nobody prevents citizens from taking precautionary measures on their own, masks and all the rest”. He then stressed that precautionary measures are not suggested by the Kremlin but by the government and the federal agency for health checks.

On the other hand, on the administration of the booster dose of Covid vaccine to President Vladimir Putin. “I don’t know, I can’t answer this question precisely,” Peskov said. Putin had taken the third dose of Sputnik light in November 2021, after having received the first two doses in the previous spring.
