Saudi Arabia opens its airspace to all airlines. Biden: “Historic decision”

The decision is “to complement efforts to consolidate the Kingdom’s position as a global hub linking three continents and to improve international air connectivity,” explained the General Civil Aviation Authority.

The General Civil Aviation Authority (GACA) reported that Saudi Arabia has decided to open the Kingdom’s airspace to all air carriers that meet the “overflight authority” requirements. The decision is “to complement efforts to consolidate the Kingdom’s position as a global hub linking three continents and to improve international air connectivity,” the GACA added in a statement.

On Thursday, a US official said Saudi Arabia will soon allow unrestricted overflight to Israeli airlines and allow direct charter flights from Israel for Muslims participating in the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.

US President Joe Biden called this decision “historic. It paves the way for a more integrated, stable and secure Middle East “.
