Stoltenberg: Putin made some mistakes when he started the invasion of Ukraine

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has said Vladimir Putin made some big mistakes when he invaded, including underestimating the alliance’s ability to support Ukraine.

“President Putin made some big mistakes when he invaded Ukraine, strategic mistakes,” the NATO chief told the media outside 10 Downing Street during a visit to the United Kingdom.

“One was the underestimation of the Ukrainians, their courage, their commitment to fight and defend their country. “The other mistake he made was underestimating our allies, our NATO partners, in our ability to support Ukraine,” he said.

“What we have seen is that NATO allies and partners have provided unprecedented support to Ukraine. And what stands out when you look at the opinion polls, the political messages from various NATO allied countries, is that we are ready to continue providing support for as long as it takes,” added Stoltenberg.

He said there are always some voices that have a different opinion, but the clear message from the majority is that support for Ukraine will continue.
