Dramatic moments experienced in the past few hours by the citizens of Aguascalientes, in central Mexico, where a collision between a train and a tanker loaded with fuel at a level crossing caused a mega fire that forced the evacuation of hundreds of homes and about one thousands of residents.

The terrible crash with the consequent explosion took place on Thursday afternoon and only by pure chance did not cause any victims even if some injuries were recorded, largely due to smoke poisoning.

As the images released on social media show, the terrible fire in fact raised a huge cloud of black smoke over the entire affected area which forced the authorities to evacuate homes and businesses.

As reported by both Leonardo Montañez, mayor of Aguascalientes, and Teresa Jiménez Esquivel, governor of the Mexican state, the timely intervention of relief efforts prevented deaths but the fire went on for hours and caused damage to over a hundred homes. .

According to the report of the events made by the President of the State, at 5:40 pm on Thursday 20 October, the emergency numbers were notified of an accident between a train and a tanker vehicle carrying fuel. About five minutes later, the firefighters arrived on the scene to begin the evacuation of the 300 houses located in the neighborhood.

According to an initial reconstruction, the truck driver would have recklessly engaged the tracks at the level crossing and a passing freight train would have hit him, starting a fire and then an explosion in the natural gas pipes that pass under the railway overpass.

Miraculously, the truck driver was saved with only a minor injury to his arm. The man was taken to hospital but is under arrest. The other motorists who were at the level crossing and who witnessed the first impact and then left the area running away when they realized the danger were also safe and unharmed.
