Ukraine, missiles on Olenivka prison, over 50 dead

Russians and Ukrainians accuse each other of having carried out the bombing of the detention center in Olenivka, in the pro-Russian republic of Donetsk, where Ukrainian soldiers taken prisoner are being held.

“Olenivka is a classic, cynical and elaborate operation under a false flag.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also spoke on the raid on the Olenivka prison, in the pro-Russian Republic of Donetsk, which led to an exchange of accusations between Moscow and Kiev. Zelensky speaks of a “planned raid”, which “was carried out by Russian forces to blame Ukraine”. “We know that Moscow troops transferred part of the Ukrainian defenders to this place a few days before the Russian raids were carried out”, says the Ukrainian leader. And again: “The aim is to discredit Ukraine in front of our partners and stop the supply of weapons. It is a deliberate mass murder that requires rigorous investigation. We ask for a reaction from the UN and international organizations”.

According to CNN, the Ukrainian Attorney General’s Office has launched an investigation into the raid on the prison, in violation of the laws and customs of war outlined in the Ukrainian penal code. According to preliminary information gathered by the prosecutor’s office, “the occupying state hit the territory of penal colony No. 120 in the temporarily occupied village of Olenivka in the Volnovakha district of the Donetsk region”. We also read that “in this colony the occupiers have created a place of detention, where civilians and prisoners of war of the Ukrainian armed forces are illegally detained”.

And Russia has also opened an investigation into the bombed prison. The Investigative Committee of Russia “opened a criminal case for a crime under Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation in connection with the attack by Ukrainian nationalists on the pre-trial detention center in the village of Olenivka in the Donetsk Republic”, thus the military forces of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, the Guardian reports. “Investigators are currently investigating the scene. The Russian Investigative Committee will take steps to establish all the circumstances of the incident and the Ukrainian nationalists involved in this crime”, the pro-Russians

According to Russia, the Ukrainian military intentionally carried out a bombing raid to eliminate the militants of the Azov battalion who had begun to testify. “Russia committed another chilling war crime by bombing a corrective facility in occupied Olenivka where it held Ukrainian prisoners of war. I urge all partners to strongly condemn this brutal violation of international humanitarian law and to recognize Russia as a terrorist state”, the words instead of the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba.

More than fifty victims of the bombing would be. The latest toll of the pro-Russians speaks of 53 victims and 75 injured. According to the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office, quoted by the Guardian, the injured are instead 130.
