What will the Belarusian soldiers do. Minsk: “We will not attack, we will only have defensive tasks”

Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin: “We will not attack anyone. I would like to stress once again that this grouping of forces should carry out purely defensive tasks”.

The joint group of Russian and Belarusian troops “has started the Union protection mission”. This was announced by the Minister of Defense of Minsk, Viktor Khrenin, assuring that the purpose of the contingent “is purely defensive, we have no intention of attacking anyone”.

In recent days, the creation and deployment of the Russian-Belarusian had raised fears of the possibility of further attacks on Ukraine from the northern border, a fear that has not yet been entirely dispelled but which according to many experts would represent a gamble.

For the moment, as Khrenin reported, “the grouping of regional forces of Belarus and Russia has begun the deployment and carrying out of missions concerning the armed defense of the State of the Union of Belarus and Russia. Taking into account the evolution of the situation, we are gradually implementing individual measures aimed at preparing the group to respond to emerging challenges and threats. We are convinced that it will ensure security along the entire perimeter of the borders of the States of the Union in the collective security region of Eastern Europe. “

The Belarusian Defense Minister stressed that the contingent will not have exclusively defensive purposes. “We will not attack anyone. I would like to stress once again that this grouping of forces should carry out purely defensive tasks. All the measures adopted are geared towards an adequate response to what is happening along our borders.”

“We believe – he added – that the measures we have implemented and the strategic deterrence measures that the Armed Forces have planned will ensure the defense of our country and will cause unacceptable damage to the aggressor. At the same time, we continue to think it is desirable to start negotiations and find an agreement “.
